After teaching myself how to make collage versions of Penrose triangles, I began playing around with impossible geometry to create unconventional star polygons. I like the idea of them just hanging in mid-air. With each plane of the polygon being clad in vintage landscape photography from the same era as the background, the impossible shape looks as though it has a mirror-like surface, reflecting the scenery around it. I think of them as having a retro-futurism feel, engendering feelings of nostalgia for the science fiction and hopes of the past, while simultaneously triggering a sense of unease at the strange.
Available as a giclée print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper, this print of a hand cut paper collage can also be purchased framed, with three options to choose from.
