How it works
Prints
Giclée prints are created using a very highly calibrated and fine resolution inkjet printer that utilises archival pigment inks and professional art papers, and is the main choice for fine artists, painters and illustrators who offer print editions. The prints available here on the Print Shop are of scans or photographs of the artwork of Stephen Cranston - Visual Artist, and as a general rule, the smaller the size option for each print, the closer it is to the size of the original artwork. While I have taken great care to prepare these images for printing, the larger scaled-up options may reveal more of the 'hand-cut' nature of the collage process - i.e. I use a scalpel to cut the various elements of each collage and you may see more of the 'process' when magnified in a print that is a larger scale than the original. The same goes for the vintage quality of the papers used in the original. A lot of the landscapes that feature in my artwork are taken from 1950s 'photogravures' - a printing process involving layers of copperplate photo etching, with a gorgeous grainy finish, and is something that can be accentuated when seen in the larger scale giclée prints.
The Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper used for your giclée print is characterised by its super matt finish, and is manufactured using resources from sustainable forest management areas only *

Framing
The picture frames on offer are made from FSC®-certified wood ***
The frame windows are made of edge-ground float glass with a UV filter of approx 45%. For the extra large framed prints in sizes of A1, 60x80cm and 70x100cm, a very high quality 3mm clear acrylic is used instead to prevent damage during transit. The frames are also equipped with an acid-free insert and a sturdy rear panel, with 'nail hanging' fixtures attached.
* This programme ensures the preservation and protection of biodiversity, the renewal of the forests habitats and decreasing the impacts of exploitation of forest areas for future generations. The paper used is certified for the traceability of the wood fibres from an origin of non-threatened forests.
** All the packaging used in your order is either recyclable or biodegradable, including stickers, tape as well as any frame edge protectors used.
*** The wood comes from sustainably managed forests that meet the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council. The Oak frames are solid wood from FSC®-certified sources with an Oak veneer.
